Social Exclusion measures the extent to which an expression conveys being left out, ignored, avoided, or not included in social contact, group belonging, or shared decisions. It encompasses both reduced social connection and explicit experiences of exclusion by others.
Minimal Social Exclusion
Expressions activating this band describe little to no felt exclusion and may instead reflect solitary preference or content unrelated to social inclusion. Social contact is not framed as being denied, blocked, or withheld by others.
Mild Social Exclusion
Expressions activating this band describe limited social contact, weak recognition, or uncertainty about being known, accepted, or included. Exclusion is present as intermittent isolation, reduced invitations, or feeling overlooked in everyday relationships.
Moderate Social Exclusion
Expressions activating this band describe a clearer sense of not fitting in, lacking shared interests or friendships, or feeling like a stranger among others. Social belonging is experienced as fragile or incomplete, with noticeable distance from surrounding groups.
High Social Exclusion
Expressions activating this band describe direct experiences of being ignored, avoided, or deliberately kept out of social activities. Exclusion is experienced as active interpersonal rejection and social isolation.
Severe Social Exclusion
Expressions activating this band describe a pervasive sense of being left out of important social, communal, or decision-making spaces. Exclusion is experienced as explicit noninclusion in shared life, group participation, or collective processes.
